15 juni 2024, van 14:00 tot 15:30 | Bibliotheek Veldhoven

Kosten: Gratis na aanmelding

Presentation of Chaitali Sengupta's book 'The Crossings, poems on war, migration & survival'. This activity is in English.

On the weekend of 15-16 June, we will run the 15th edition of the Night of Refugees (de Nacht van de Vluchteling). The Night of the Refugee is the Refugee Foundation's (Stitchting Vluchteling) annual event, in which thousands of participants walk 10, 20 or 40 kilometres in different cities. An occasion to celebrate the role of the migrant and the contribution that migration- both voluntary and forced- brings to development. On 15th June, Veldhoven Library will hold a special event to discuss the challenges and difficulties that forced migrants, and displaced persons go through while trying to flee their homeland with Chaitali Sengupta's book The Crossings, poems on war, migration & survival.

The Ukrainian poet Vyacheslav Konoval Ivanovych says: "The Crossings is a beautiful creation, focusing on the issues of war, migration, survival, and hope. Chaitali's creative expression is based on the personal tragedies gleaned from eyewitnesses, forced migrants, and survivors of war. Lyrical, gentle, sometimes shockingly beautiful lines in a not-so-beautiful world focus on details of destroyed landscapes and shattered humanities through war. She has eyes and a soul that understands suffering."

The event will include a short discussion (Moderated by Karishma Vij) on Chaitali's book The Crossings followed by a reading from the book. It will be followed by readers sharing their feedback on the book and book signing by the author.
